Northwood’s boys basketball team captured the Rancho Alamitos Thanksgiving Tournament last week, defeating Monrovia in the championship game 73-59 on Saturday, according to first-year coach Christian Manalo.
Leading scorers for the Timberwolves in the championship game were junior Aditya Sheth with 22 points and senior Daniil Shaplov with 16 points and seven rebounds.
Freshman Diogo Vieira also contributed 10 points and eight rebounds in the victory.
Sophomore Ryan Abaye was awarded tournament MVP, averaging 10 points, four assists and three steals per game and senior Justin Gee was awarded all-tournament honors averaging 10 points, five rebounds and three steals per game.
“This is Northwood’s first tournament victory in five seasons,” Manalo said.
Northwood opened the Loara Tournament Monday with a victory over Loara.
