Cypress boys basketball team, which had a 14-game winning streak snapped on Friday, got back on track Saturday, defeating Foothill of Las Vegas 69-61 at the Las Vegas Tournament.
“We were able to bounce back after a tough loss yesterday and win third place against a very good Foothill team,” said Coach Derek Mitchell. “We showed perseverance and grit throughout the game when we were down early.”
Jared Brown scored 28 points, Clifton Patterson Jr. had 13 points and Elijah Vaieula had 11 to lead Cypress.
All three were named to the all-tournament team.
Cypress is 16-2 heading into league and opens up on Friday, Jan. 4 at home against Valencia.
Also Saturday:
Yorba Linda 51, Fullerton 49: Cory Knutson scored 18 points and Connor Platt added 14 points to lead Yorba Linda to a 51-49 victory over Fullerton in a consolation round game at the Century Elks Tournament Saturday.
Omair Memon added 10 points for the Mustangs (11-6).
Platt was named to the all-tournament team.
Stone Sinek had 21 points and Sage Guillen 12 points for Fullerton (9-10). Fullerton outscored Yorba Linda 18-10 in the final quarter but was unable to complete the comeback.
