Woodbridge High School’s girls flag football team took home another trophy Thursday night, winning the Pacific Coast League tournament at Laguna Hills.
The Warriors also won the regular season title.
Woodbridge defeated University 13-0 in the semifinals. Northwood beat Beckman in the other semifinal.
Woodbridge then defeated Northwood 39-6 to claim the championship. It was the first season of girls flag football as a CIF sanctioned sport.
“Everyone contributes on this team but the top players in the first game were Milan Heisdorf and Tori Zebko,” said Woodbridge Coach Mark Thompson. “Milan Heisdorf caught the first touchdown running a perfect route and made several key catch-and-runs to keep us in the game against University. Tori Zebko caught the second touchdown late in the second half to go up by two scores.
“Top players in the second game were Teagan Burrus, Emily Harris and Zoey Ceman. Zoey Ceman scored first in the game against Northwood showing great concentration catching in traffic. The game changer was a pick-six by Emily Harris on the ensuing drive which opened up the game and allowed us to play with a comfortable lead. Quarterback Teagan Burrus was in control the whole game distributing the ball with four more touchdowns to Zoey Ceman, Hana Watanabe, Maci Land and Sofia Goffard.”
