Woodbridge High School’s boys water polo team is off to a fast start, posting an 8-1 record and is the top ranked team in the CIF Division 4 polls.

“We are off to a great start with a strong freshman class and a few seasoned upperclassmen, looking to have a great year and earn their berth into playoffs,” said Warriors Coach Alex Farraro. “We have been in rebuild since COVID and this is looking to be a break out year for the Warriors.

“With a tough league and half a dozen local water polo clubs, the Pacific Coast conference has a depth of talent backed by a fierce swim community. Getting to .500 plus and proving our might at playoffs is the goal of the 23-24 Warriors team.”

The highlights so far include the team’s 9-8 overtime win over Division 2 Villa Park.

A number of players have led the way for Woodbridge.

“Our center Caden Bolton has been dominant in holding position and forcing zones, opening up our perimeter shooters,” Farraro said. “Robin Koehler has put his speed on display by burying counter attacks and earning MVP of the Tustin Memorial Tournament.

“Our strong presence in junior goalkeeper Ben Chan and freshman Eli Bolton at center defense, create opportunities and force the fast breaks on the offensive end. This season we have a bench like never before with fast, eager and intelligent players ready for their moment to impact the game.”

Woodbridge returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 19 hosting Costa Mesa at 4 p.m. The Warriors then face Crean Lutheran on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

Woodbridge’s first league game is Thursday, Sept. 28 at home vs. Sage Hill.
