Western High’s football team captured a 39-0 Orange League victory over Anaheim Saturday night in the annual Bell Game at Western. It was the team’s third straight win in the abbreviated spring season.
“This is such an important game against Anaheim,” said Western Coach Dan Davidson. “The Bell Game brings an outstanding alumni following for both teams and I am honored to say we will be keeping the bell again another year.”Â

Matthew Berenji had three touchdown receptions to lead the Pioneers (3-0). He hauled in six catches for 139 yards.
Oscar Howard had an interception and recovered a fumble. Western had rushing touchdowns from Anthony Barbosa, Johnny Martinez and Israel Cruz.
Anthony Barbosa threw for three touchdowns and ran for one score. He completed 14 of 22 passes for 204 yards.
“Israel Cruz and Michael Sutton Shy controlled the edge running all night which was extremely important to our scheme and success tonight,” Davidson said.
Martinez was the leading rusher with 116 yards on 11 carries and one touchdown. Drew Faulkner had seven catches for 52 yards.
Anaheim (1-2) was led by Andrew Luna who rushed for 80 yards on 16 carries. The Colonists had 137 yards in total offense, including 45 yards passing.
Western’s defense had two sacks, one interception and three fumble recoveries.
