Crean Lutheran High School’s week zero football game with Mullen from Denver, Colo. has been pushed back to 7:40 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22 at Crean Lutheran due to the expected excessive heat conditions, school officials said Thursday.
Temperatures in Irvine are expected to reach around 90 degree Friday. It was 95 on the Crean Lutheran campus Wednesday afternoon.
It’s the only reported time change as of Thursday afternoon.
However, it’s possible that the Segerstrom vs. Palm Springs game scheduled for 7 p.m. in Palm Springs Friday night, could be changed, according to Segerstrom Coach Joseph Tagaloa.
Temperatures were expected to be about 114 degrees Thursday and 106 degrees on Friday in Segerstrom.
“Tomorrow’s game is currently still scheduled for a 7 p.m. start, but arrangements have been made just in case the weather is too hot, for the game to be played at 8 p.m.,” Tagaloa said Thursday. “As far as the weather conditions go, we have to abide by Palm Springs area guidelines.”
According to the CIF State Office in a memo provided by Thom Simmons, CIF Southern Section Assistant Commissioner, a WetBulb Globe Temperature device is used to measure of the heat stress in direct sunlight, which takes into account: temperature, humidity, wind speed, sun angle, and cloud cover (solar radiation).
Athletic directors have used the device to monitor practice and game conditions.
