The University High School boys tennis team defeated Torrey Pines high from the CIF San Diego Section 5-2 to win the CIF Southern California Regional championship last weekend.
Coach John Kessler’s University team, which also won the CIF Southern Section Open Division crown, got wins at singles from freshmen JiHyuk Im and Daniel Zhu as well as junior Arystarkh Len.
The Trojans also notched two wins at second doubles from Mimo Alajeely and Langston Walter-Wu and at third doubles from Cedric Lichtsteiner and Joseph Chan, according to Kessler.
“The boys will go to Fresno on Saturday to play California High School, the Northern Cal winner, for the first official California state championship,” Kessler said.
