Two Orange County teams earn top seeds for CIF girls flag football playoffs

JSerra (Divsion 1) and Cypress (Division 2) earned top seeds in their divisions for the CIF girls flag football playoffs that begin next week.

CIF officials said that 176 teams qualified for the playoffs in six divisions. The playoffs begin on Tuesday for Divisions 2-6. The Division 1 playoffs begin on Wednesday.

Games are scheduled for 5 p.m.

The finals will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Fred Kelly Stadium.

Other teams that earned high seedings were Orange Lutheran (No. 2) and Huntington Beach (No. 3) in Division 1 and La Habra (No. 2) and Mission Viejo (No. 3) in Division 3.

JSerra (24-0), the Trinity League co-champion, hosts Trabuco Hills Wednesday.

Also in Division 1, Canyon plays at Santa Margarita, Edison is at Newport Harbor, Esperanza at Huntington Beach and Redondo Union at Orange Lutheran.

Cypress (19-6) the Crestview League co-runner-up, hosts Bishop Amat on Tuesday.

Also in Division 2, Empire League champion Fullerton (20-7) is at Ventura and Pacific Coast League rivals Northwood (13-12) and Woodbridge (17-8) play at Woodbridge.

PCL champion Portola (23-2) hosts Shadow Hills (23-4) Tuesday. It’s Portola’s first appearance in the CIF playoffs.

San Clemente is at Yorba Linda and Westlake at Mater Dei in Division 2.

In Division 3, University is at Mission Viejo and San Marino plays at La Habra.

In Division 4, St Mary’s Academy is at Kennedy and Laguna Hills at Inglewood.

In Division 5, Garden Grove plays at Vista Murrieta and Costa Mesa is at Long Beach Jordan.

In Division 6, Saddleback plays at Cerritos and Bell Gardens is at Loara.

It’s the second year of CIF playoffs for the sport. Other top seeded teams are Mira Costa, Temecula Prep, Quartz Hill, and Brentwood.
