Capistrano Valley High School’s standout senior running back/defensive back Hayden Cook committed to play college football for Western New Mexico this past week, according to Cougars Coach Sean Curtis.
“We could not be more thrilled for Hayden to continue his academic and athletic career at the next level,” Curtis said. “It is no secret that Hayden is one of the most gifted athletes on our football team. In 2019, he lined up at running back, receiver, defensive back, safety, kick-off returner and was on nearly every special team.
“He averaged over five yards every time he touched the ball. All of our opponents pay close attention to where he is at because of his ability to change the game at any moment. One thing about Hayden that makes him such a great football player is that he is fearless. When you watch him on film, he puts his body on the line to get that extra yard or make that critical tackle.”
Cook keeps working to make himself better, Curtis said.
“I’m so proud of how far Hayden has come and his desire to always try and get better,” Curtis said. “Above all his incredible talent is the fact that he is a great person: respectful, polite and coachable. He has worked so hard to get to where he is today and he deserves all the great things that are coming his way.”
