Segerstrom High School’s football team goes into its bye week with a 4-2 overall record.
The Jaguars resume action on Friday, Oct. 6 at home vs. St. Bernard before opening the first of three Big Four League games on Thursday, Oct. 12, vs. Katella at Glover Stadium.
“We now go into our bye week and our goal is to get healthy,” said Coach Joseph Tagaloa. “We have one more tune up vs. St. Bernard’s before we get into league play.”
The Jaguars dropped a 39-25 non-league game to Troy Friday night after leading at halftime.
“Tonight was tough battle against a talented Troy team,” Tagaloa said. “We were able to make plays and execute on offense throughout the first half. Similarly, our defense played fast got stops early. They forced a fumble that led to a field goal. Our special teams played amazing all night. Unfortunately this was a game of two halves. Not to take anything away from Troy, but we made too many mistakes in the second half that ultimately made the difference in the game.
“Ayden Morales played hard for us scoring three touchdowns behind a good effort by the offensive line.”
Tagaloa said the defense and special teams had solid efforts.
“Special teams played exceptionally well kicking a field goal and converting on a two-point conversion,” he said. “They also forced two turnovers on kickoff. Our defense was led by Sonny Naiuli and Damien Orejel up front. Linebackers Mokey Leuma and Isaiah Valdivia played well too.”
