“Last night was a good test for our guys,” Segerstrom Coach Joseph Tagaloa told OC Sports Zone Saturday. “We played a solid well coached team in El Modena. Although we started off very slow, our guys continued to battle throughout the game. Following behind 14 points at halftime and having to kickoff to them was a challenge our guys were well aware of as we discussed adjustments during halftime meetings.
“The resiliency that our boys demonstrated stems from our motto FOE (family over everything). We knew if we pulled together that we could get back into the game and have a chance to win. The energy and grit that we showed is a testament to all the hard work leading up to the game.
“The win was a definitely a team win as the defense made some key stops and created turnovers in the second half that allowed our offense to capitalize. The game was not pretty but we preserved.”
Segertrom was led by quarterback Angel Vega who threw and rushed for more than 100 yards.
The defense was also solid, led by Andrew Schouw, who had two interceptions.
“The defense was led by a collective effort of finally stopping the run which led to two interceptions by Andrew Schouw,” Tagaloa said. “Every single player played their hearts out and that’s all we can ask for.”
