One team stands in the way of Segerstrom’s football team capturing the Big 4 League championship, a very talented Garden Grove squad.
Segerstrom faces Garden Grove Thursday night at 7 at Michael Monsoor Memorial Stadium on the Garden Grove campus. Both teams are 8-1 overall and tied for first place with 2-0 records. Both teams are headed to the CIF playoffs in Division 9.
Segerstrom is ranked sixth and Garden Grove seventh in this week’s poll.
Segerstrom is on a 6-game winning streak. The Jaguars last loss was a 21-7 setback against El Modena Aug. 31.
Since then, the Jaguars have been rolling. They defeated Westminster 48-7 last week.

“We are excited to be in a position to compete for a league championship,” said Segerstrom Coach Joseph Tagaloa. “Garden Grove is a tough team that is well-coached, so I know its going to be a war. Our players are looking forward to the challenge and will be ready to go come Thursday night.”
Segerstrom will be led by sophomore quarterback Angel Vega who holds the Jaguars’ record for most passing yards and touchdowns in a game. He has thrown for 1,525 yards and 24 touchdowns and also rushed for 267 yards and four touchdowns.
Segerstrom’s top receiver is junior Iverson Fuiava, who has 723 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns.
Wide receiver Andrew Schouw, a junior, has 360 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
Running backs include Enrique Lopez, who has 456 yards rushing and five touchdowns; Alex Sanchez, who has 446 yards rushing and three touchdowns; Daniel Stewart, who has 357 yards and three touchdowns and Paul Roa, who has 182 yards and three touchdowns.
Defensively, middle linebacker Reymundo Garcia (83 tackles), free safety Jacob Rodriguez (59 tackles) and tackle Cristian Carmona (57 tackles) lead the way.
