Santa Ana Valley’s football team is making some progress under first year coach Alfredo Macias, who on Wednesday was named the Los Angeles Chargers Orange County coach of the week.
The Falcons improved their record to 2-4 overall with a 30-6 victory over Century Friday night in the Orange League opener at Century.
“We had a good win on the road vs. Century and our kids performed well epecially our run game that was led by Moses Robert and junior Avalos Martinez (who both had touchdowns),” Macias said.
“Our quarterback Tom Guzman completed key receptions to our wide receiver which led to a passing touchdown to Juan Vargas and that opened up our offense which was led by the offensive line play.
“Overall, as a team we played well and having a bye week prepared us for Century offense which our defense played (with) discipline and sound football. As a team I’m happy with the progress we are making but every week is new challenges, and we just have to compete every snap and get better one play at a time.”
Santa Ana Valley plays Magnolia Friday night at Western in its next Orange League game. Century (0-5, 0-1) hosts Savanna Friday night.
“Our overall goal is to just to play physical situational football and compete every snap and try to make the playoffs in our very competitive Orange League,” Macias said.
