The Inaugural Santa Ana Prep Showcase featuring boys and girls from six Santa Ana Unified School District high schools will take place Saturday, March 14 at Santa Ana Valley High School.
The players, nominated by their coaches, will compete in a 3-point shooting contest prior to the girls game. The event is being presented by the Raya Foundation, a Santa Ana non-profit who noted in a release its goal is to “develop youth to be successful by providing positive athletic opportunities, supporting academic achievement and mentoring families.”
The 3-point shooting contest begins at 5 p.m. and will be followed by the girls game at 6 p.m. and the boys game at 7:30 p.m.
The coaches for the boys game will be Andres Hernandez from Century and Fareed ElMasry from Santa Ana. Coaches for the girls game will be Alvaro Nunez of Santa Ana Valley and A.J. Almaman of Godinez.
“This has been a dream of our foundation for the last five years,” said Raya Foundation President Leon Raya. “We’re incredibly excited to provide the student athletes basketball players in the district an event where they can be celebrated and recognized for their hard work and dedication.”
Tickets will be $8 at the door and proceeds will benefit the Raya Foundation scholarships and programs which will include basketball clinics, leadership workshops and basketball leagues for Santa Ana boys and girls.
