San Juan Hills High School’s girls basketball team captured the championship at the Villa Park-Portola Kick-off Classic defeating Portola 56-48 Saturday night.
“We won the championship game against a good Portola team,” said Stallions Coach Paul Edwards.
Portola jumped out to an early 17-9 lead before San Juan Hills cut the lead to two points before halftime.
“Coming out the break we took an early 31-30 lead when Amanda Edwards buried a three to give us a two score lead and we would never trail again,” Edwards said.
Aryanna Hudson led San Juan Hills with 25 points while Amanda Edwards contributed 18 points.
Hudson was thet MVP of the tournament and Sydney Peterson was named to the all tournament team.
Portola was led by Moka Saiki with 28 points and Nina Saiki with eight points.
San Juan Hills returns to action in the Villa Park Holiday Classic on Monday, Nov. 28. Portola is competing in the Corona del Mar Classic this week and defeated Newport Harbor 59-7 Monday night. Moka Saiki had 12 points to lead the Bulldogs.
