Portola led 19-18 at halftime. The Bulldogs moved out to a 15-point lead in the third quarter before Woodbridge came back to tie the game and take a 3-point lead.
Portola missed a 3-pointer attempt at the buzzer and the game went into overtime. The Bulldogs were able to score 12 points in the overtime to win it.
Portola has two home games this week, Wednesday vs. University and Friday vs. Irvine before meeting Woodbridge on Tuesday, Feb. 1, in a game that could determine the league title.
“I’m very proud of our team’s resiliency tonight,” Portola Coach Brian Smith said after Monday’s win. “Woodbridge is a tough, well coached team with a lot of weapons. Our guys executed when we needed them to and played together to get a team win.”
Woodbridge plays at Laguna Hills Tuesday and travels to Beckman Friday.
