Cypress High’s boys basketball team captured the rematch with Beckman, defeating the Patriots 64-57 Friday night at Cypress.
“Great team victory as everyone played well,” said Cypress Coach Derek Mitchell.
Cypress, the defending Empire League champion, opens league play Tuesday at Tustin at 6 p.m.
“The Cents are looking to win their third straight league title on all three levels,” Mitchell said.
Eddie Spencer led Cypress (11-5) with 24 points and five 3-pointers. Elijah Vaielua had 14 points and Christian Chai 12 points, nine rebounds and three steals.
Cypress also defeated Beckman 69-63 on Monday at the Torrey Pines Invitational.
Portola 66, Indio 30: The Bulldogs improved their record to 7-10 with a 66-30 victory over Indio at the Rancho Mirage Showcase in the Snake Pit Friday.
Mohsen Hashemi scored 17 points and Soma Doherty and Saif Habibeh had eight points each for Portola.
Robert Giraldy added seven points for the Bulldogs.
Newport Harbor 58, Laguna Beach 45: The Sailors (15-4) won in a Sunset League crossover game 58-45 at home. Robbie Spooner had 22 points and Levi Darrow 13 points.
Corona del Mar 64, Marina 58: The Sea Kings won the Sunset League crossover game. CdM (12-4) was led by Jack Stone with 27 points. Efe Guocoglu scored 17 points and Jack McKenna nine points for CdM.
Laguna Hills 57, Orange 23: David Moon scored 19 points and Seth Whitney had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Laguna Hills (10-6). The Hawks play Monday night at El Toro.
