Beckman’s Dylan Thoerner, the first OC Sports Zone basketball player to watch, is expected to help the Patriots’ boys basketball team contend for the Pacific Coast League title.

The 6-6 senior got off to a great start Monday, scoring 23 points in the Patriots 48-45 victory over El Segundo in the Rumble for Rosecrans Avenue Tournament at Sunny Hills.

“Dylan has consistently improved each season, adding a new aspect to his game each year while continuing to get physically stronger,” said Beckman Coach John Goins. “He is able to score at all three levels (inside/midrange/long) while also being an excellent passer and ball handler. What is most impressive is his perfect grades in high school, having received straight A’s in all of his classes every year.”

Thoerner averaged 20 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists a game last year and was all-league first team for the second year in a row and All-CIF 3AA.

He appears to have a promising future.

“Due to his academic excellence, he has been offered by some of the top academic Division 3 institutions in the country,” Goins said. “He has not committed yet, waiting to see his early admission status to Stanford before he makes any decisions about school/basketball next year.”
