Placentia’s Bronco 12-and-under all-stars captured their third victory in a row at the super regional in Jurupa Valley Sunday, defeating Simi Valley Red 7-6.
Placenita moves into the championship game Sunday night against Tecolate Red, according to Coach Brandon Smith.
Placentia’s Cole Grothues kept hitters off balance and threw well for five innings, Smith said.
Grady Klovstad pitched the final two innings for Placentia.
“Andrew Churney and Grady Klovstad remained hot in the box with six hits combined,” Smith said. “A big hit by Aiden Marchetta started off the bottom of the sixth inning in which he came round to score the deciding run for us.”
Klovstad was 3 for 3 with three runs scored, Churney was 3 for 3 with three RBI and a run scored, Tyler Fritz had two RBI and Grothues had two hits and a run scored for Placentia.
Simi Valley had 10 hits and Placentia nine.
“It was definitely an excellent team win for us,” Smith said.
