St. Margaret’s High School’s girls basketball team captured the first CIF title for the program in school history Saturday defeating Gahr of Cerritos 44-33 in the 5AA finals at Marina High School.
Kaitlin Tam had 12 points, Taylor Francois 11 points and Lila Wohlgemuth nine points to lead St. Margaret’s (27-6). Annika Tufo added eight points.

Francois had 10 rebounds, Tam and Tufo nine rebounds each and Sophia Gazzaniga eight rebounds. St. Margaret’s out-rebounded Gahr 45-17.
Gahr (25-7) was led by Kameryn Mitchell, who had 16 points.
St. Margaret’s held a 18-17 lead at halftime before going on a 10-0 run to start the third quarter. Gahr was able to trim the lead to five points in the fourth quarter before St. Margaret’s sealed the win.
Both teams are headed to the CIF Southern Regionals this week.
