Segerstrom (6-2, 3-0) and Brea Olinda (8-0, 3-0) meet Friday at Segerstrom in a game that will likely determine the league title. Both teams, who appear headed to the CIF playoffs, have two league games left.

Esperanza (5-3, 2-1) is in third place in the league.

“Last night, our boys played hard and were able to secure another league victory,” Segerstrom Coach Joseph Tagaloa said Saturday. “Very proud of the effort we put out last night, even though we did not play a perfect game.

“Our special teams came up with some big plays. We had a couple touchbacks on kickoff and blocked a punt which really helped with field position. Defensively our guys flew around all night. We were able to put constant pressure on the QB resulting In interceptions by Nicholas Cervantes and Cristian Ramos.”

The Jaguars were able to overcome a slow start when quarterback Jesse Lopez connected with Cervantes for the first touchdown of the night, Coach Tagaloa said. Noah Tagaloa led the team in rushing with two long touchdowns, while Andrew Diaz had another.

“Overall we got the win, but we have to clean some stuff up,” Coach Tagaloa said. “We host Brea (Olinda) next week and they are a solid team. We are looking forward to competing Friday night.”

Westminster (3-5, 1-2) hosts Esperanza Friday night.
