Segerstrom’s football team, coached by Joseph Tagaloa, gave the home fans plenty to cheer about Friday night, capturing a 42-0 victory over Bell Gardens in the season opener for both teams. Segerstrom led 28-0 at halftime.

“We opened up the season with a big team effort,” said Coach Tagaloa. “Our players understand how important each snap is and really came ready to play. We dedicated our season and home opener to Israel Escobedo and the players responded with a solid performance.
“On the defensive side of the ball we were led by big plays by Rey Garcia and Douglas Lopez. Offensively we got two big catches in the opening drives by Danny Navarro accompanied by a solid performance by Jacob Rodriguez on the ground. Overall, I was very happy with our effort and look forward to correcting our mistakes in preparation for rivalry week vs. Godinez.”
