A comeback in the final minutes by Calvary Chapel High School’s boys basketball team came up short Wednesday night.
The Eagles, the co-champions of the Orange Coast League, lost to Santa Monica 59-58 in the CIF 3AA playoff opener at Calvary Chapel.

Calvary Chapel (17-11) trailed by four points with about a minute left but Tyler Peterson hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to one points. Calvary Chapel got the ball back on a turnover with two seconds left on their end.
But a potential game-winning shot fell off the rim.
Calvary Chapel’s Caiden Curran led all scorers with 22 points. Carson Franklin had 12 points and Gavin Russell eight points.
Joshua Hecht had 19 points and Anton Berge Wells and Luke Hecht each had 11 points for Santa Monica (18-11).
