Beckman and El Cerrito players were going all out before Saturday’s CIF State 4-A championship game at Buena Park. El Cerrito won its first state title with a 35-12 victory, snapping Beckman’s 11-game winning streak.

It was also Beckman’s first appearance in a state final. Two weeks earlier the Patriots, coached by Marcello Giuliano, won the CIF Division 8 Southern Section championship, the first football championship for the program.
“I love this team, I’m proud of how we competed to the end and that will be the thing that we remember is just the competitive toughness and resilience this group had, a joy to coach,” Giuliano said after the game.
