Peter Carey will return as head boys soccer coach at St. Margaret’s High School, effective immediately, athletic school officials said in a statement Tuesday.
Along with his head coaching duties, Carey will oversee the Tartan Middle School soccer program.
Carey has more than 30 years playing experience and over 15 years of competitive coaching experience, officials said. Carey replaces previous coach Bryan Wallace, officials said.
Carey recently served as an assistant coach with the 2023 CIF Southern Regional and CIF Division champion JSerra High School boys soccer team.
He coached at St. Margaret’s from 2018 to 2020 and was head varsity coach for boys soccer team at San Juan Hills High School from 2011 to 2018.
Carey was also junior varsity and assistant varsity coach at Capistrano Valley High School from 2008 to 2011, and the Capistrano Valley Christian girls varsity head coach from 2007 to 2008.
In addition, he was an assistant with Irvine Valley College’s men’s and women’s programs since 2009, a director for the California Premier League and Capistrano F.C. club programs since 2006, and has also worked at the Chivas USA Academy and with the San Juan Soccer League.
“I’m excited to return to St. Margaret’s; it’s an amazing opportunity and a blessing to be back with the school,” Carey said. “My goal will be to continue the development of the upper school and middle school programs, growing them into elite-level teams.
“We want to be competitive at all levels and establish a high standard, goal-oriented pathway for our student-athletes to achieve greatness. I’m looking forward to getting started this summer.”
