Orange High’s baseball team opened Orange Coast League play with a 9-0 victory over Estancia Friday and pitcher Jonathon Long threw a perfect game.
Long, who had a no-hitter earlier this season in the season opener against Savanna, had 12 strikeouts and went 1 for 1 at the plate with a double, three walks and three runs scored to lead the Panthers (6-3, 1-0).
He signed earlier this year to play for Long Beach State.
Trabuco Hills 1, Laguna Hills 0: The Mustangs Mason Molina threw a no-hitter. He had seven strikeouts and two walks.
Laguna Beach 4, Edison 3: The Breakers captured a Sunset League crossover game at Edison. Eric Silva was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Aidan Kidd pitched the first six innings striking out six. Nick Bonn and Brooks Hogenauer came on to finish the game and Hogenauer got the save with two/thirds innings of hitless relief.
Beckman 5, Portola 3: The defending PCL champions opened with a victory at Portola. Mick Hyodo, Diego Hernandez and Lou Lucci had two hits each for the Patriots (6-2, 1-0). Cade McGuire had two RBI. Jamison King was the starting pitcher for Portola (5-3, 0-1).
Valencia 9, Katella 3: A.J. Santa Maria was 3 for 4 five RBI and a grand slam in the third inning to lead Valencia.
