Orange County high school football standouts from week one of 2024 season

A look at some of the OC high school football stars from week one of OC Sports Zone’s coverage, submissions and notes on X. Coaches are welcome to submit names and stats of additional players which can be added to the story; email only: timburt@ocsportszone.com so we can publish.

Josh Monroe, Capo Valley Christian: After rushing for more than 150 yards in the first game, the Eagles senior rushed for 268 yards on 22 carries and four touchdowns to lead CVC (2-0) to a 34-17 victory over University.

Jack Brucker, Northwood: Brucker had 18 carries for 63 yards and two second half TDs to lead the Timberwolves to their second straight victory.

Caden Jones, Crean Lutheran: The Saints quarterback matched his passing yardage of last week (262) completing 16 of 20 passes and four touchdowns in the Saints 56-14 victory over St. Pius X Friday night.

Nate Lewis, Villa Park: The Spartans QB threw five touchdown passes for 253 yards and also had an outstanding game on defense to lead Villa Park to a 51-14 victory over Orange.

Zaiden Kinney, Villa Park: Kinney had a big rushing game and scored a 43-yard TD run in the Spartans win.

Brandon “Figgy” Figueroa, Irvine: The senior led Irvine with had 168 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns in the Vaqueros 24-19 victory over Portola Friday night.

Fabian Bravo, Saddleback: The junior rushed for 97 yards on 10 carries and scored on a 14-yard TD in the second quarter to help the Roadrunners snap the program’s 19-game losing streak. Bravo was on last year’s team that went 0-10.

Jesse Lopez, Segerstrom: Lopez threw three touchdown passes in the Jaguars 57-0 victory over Santa Ana Valley. Segerstrom (2-0) plays at California Friday night.

Cash O’Byrne, Tesoro: O’Byrne had three touchdown runs in the Titans 42-28 loss to San Marcos.

JJ Amezca, Western: The receiver caught 13 passes for 191 yards in the Pioneers 42-7 victory over La Mirada.

Luke Whitfield, Laguna Hills: The Hawks kicker had field goals of 27 and 31 yards and made 4 of 4 point afters in the 34-14 victory over Santa Ana.

Quaid Carr and Steele Holcomb, Servite: Each player had two touchdowns in the Friars 37-17 victory over Murrieta Valley.
