Also in the Santa Ana Elks Tournament:

Northwood 5, Menlo Atherton 4: The Timberwolves won their second in a row in the tournament, defeating Menlo Atherton 5-4 Monday afternoon.

Starter Connor Belsby was solid for Northwood. He allowed two runs on one hit in 3 2/3 innings. Marcus Jacobsen pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief to earn the victory.

Justin Bonnell pitched the seventh inning recording his sixth save.

Arthur Liu was 2 for 2  with an RBI for Northwood.

“We hit the ball hard all game but just right at guys,” said Northwood Coach Rob Stuart. “Menlo played very good defense but we kept up the pressure and had a big inning again and broke it open.

“I like the way we are playing and it is nice to see our guys continue to fight and play hard. There is a different clutch player every game which takes the pressure off the top of the lineup. Players coming off the bench are coming up big in stressful situations. Our relief pitchers have been great.”
