The 57th annual Orange County Boys Basketball All-Star Game was held at Cypress College Saturday night with the North team prevailing over the South, 90-79.
The North led wire to wire although the South did cut the deficit to a single point. The North led 47-41 at halftime despite turning the ball over seven times vs. just three for the South.
Dilayehu Wempe (Los Alamitos) with 16 points and Kingsley Ashley (Sunny Hills) with 12 points were the top scorers for the North.
A trio of North players chipped in with nine points apiece: Yanis Aldeguer (Fairmont Prep), Isaiah Bernard (Foothill) and Michael Wright (Cypress, all in the second half). Jacob Buboi (Santiago) added seven points. The North made seven of eight free throws while the South managed just 10 for 19.
Nathan Brosch (San Juan Hills) was the game’s leading scorer with 19 points (two threes) for the South. Three South players contributed 10 points each: Santa Margarita teammates Jonathan Moxie and Tobias Averill to go along with Garrett Trayer of Aliso Niguel. Troy Jenkins of Crean Lutheran scored eight points while Sergio Maggette (Sage Hill) added seven.
