Newport Harbor’s boys basketball team recorded its second win in the Century Elks Holiday Classic defeating LaSalle 65-54 Saturday afternoon in a consolation round semifinal at Century.
The Sailors (13-4) were led by Nick Silva with 14 points and 17 rebounds and Luke Bashore with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Laguna Hills 54, La Quinta 35: The Hawks (9-5) were led by Crash Vandeweghe and David Moon who each scored 14 points. Laguna Hills moves into the third place game of the Estancia Coast Classic Monday at 3 p.m.
Cypress 78, Sandra Day O’Connor (Ariz) 62: The Centurions bounced back from a loss last night in the Torrey Pines Holiday Tournament with a win behind the 23-point performance by Alex Gutierrez, who had five 3-pointers. Christian Chai had 16 points and three 3-pointers. Elijah Vaielua had 11 points and seven rebounds.
Cypress lost to Laguna Beach 55-40 Friday night. Chai had 24 points and three 3-pointers.
Yorba Linda 48, Valencia 37: The Mustangs (12-5) notched a victory at the Century Elks Tournament, led by Cory Knutson, who had 11 points. Connor Platt and Chase Sandoval had eight points each and Omari Memon seven points. Andy Hon led Valencia (13-4) with 11 points.
Peninsula 50, Century 47: Century, after winning the first two games in its tournament, lost on Saturday night. Eduardo Soto scored 15 points, Luis Moran had 14 points and Rodrigo Ramirez 10 points to lead the Centurions.
