Laguna Hills High School junior Jackson Burnham shattered the school record for points in a game pouring in 54 points Wednesday in a 92-42 Golden West League basketball victory over Westminster.
The previous record of 47 points was set by Al Saldana in 1990.
“Jackson is a major piece to our team’s culture and success,” said Hawks Coach Sean Sargeant. “Stepping into a new team and changing a culture is never easy and you need players like Jackson to help make this happen.
“As a staff, we emphasize to our players being someone who’s enthusiasm is infectious to those around them. Jackson embodies that and leads with his actions. Wednesday night was special not only because he broke a school record but because his teammates wanted it for him as well. That shows what Jackson means to our team.”
Laguna Hills assistant football coach Kirk Brown reported the record Wednesday night on X. Brown said he attended the game as a student when the record was broken.
The 6-4 Burnham and his teammates resume league play Friday night at Santa Ana.
