Key first round CIF girls basketball playoff games for Orange County teams

CIF officials announced that there 293 teams will compete in 10 divisions for the CIF Girls Basketball Championships beginning Thursday, Feb. 13.

Open Division pool play games begin on Saturday, Feb. 15. The finals will be Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1 at Toyota Arena in Ontario, Azusa Pacific University, and Edison High School in Huntington Beach. It’s the first year first year of using current regular season data in determining playoff groupings, CIF officials noted.

OPEN DIVISION

There will be eight teams competing in a pool-play format.

Ontario Christian, Etiwanda, Trinity League champion Mater Dei and Sierra Vista are the top seeds.

Ventura, Brentwood, Moreno Valley and Harvard Westlake are the top four seeds. Orange Lutheran, Santa Margarita and St. Monica Prep earned at-large berths.

DIVISION 2AA

Empire League champion Buena Park, North Torrance, Crossroads and Oxnard are top four seeds. West Torrance, Glendora and Valley View earned at-large berths.

DIVISION 2A

Burroughs, Rosary Academy, Chino and Sunset League co-champion Fountain Valley earned top seeds. Roosevelt, Aliso Niguel and Corona earned at-large berths.

Coast League champion Savanna, Leuzinger, St. Lucy’s and Temecula Prep earned top seeds. Apple Valley and Vistamar earned at-large berths.
