Corona del Mar’s baseball team defeated Capistrano Valley Christian 2-0 Tuesday afternoon in a non-league game at CdM.
Junior Brady Andrews (2-1) threw a complete game two-hit shutout on 84 pitches and struck out six. He did not walk a batter.
Marcello Anelli and Dillon Lane were both 2 for 3 with a run scored for CdM. Vince Menard delivered an RBI single in the first inning to give the Sea Kings (5-2) a 1-0 lead. Will Chiechi had an RBI in the sixth inning to move CdM to a 2-0 lead.
“Brady Andrews was really good today,” said CdM Coach Kevin McCaffrey. “He was able to change speeds to keep a good team off balance all afternoon. Pitching coaches Nick Barte and Mike Gerakos called a great game that Brady and catcher Dillon Lane executed to perfection.
“We are really proud of Brady. He has been putting in a lot of work and to see him have such success is really neat. We were able to put some good at bats together against a really good pitcher (Drew Johnson – USC commit).”
CdM had nine hits, three batters reached on walks, one on a hit batter and the Sea Kings stole four bases.
The teams play again Thursday at 3 p.m. at CdM.
