It’s a proud day at Western as Caine and Cassius Savage sign letters of intent to play football

Teammates, friends and family members came out Wednesday afternoon in the school gymnasium to support Western High football standouts Caine Savage and Cassius Savage who both signed their national letters of intent to play Division 1 college football.

Cassius Savage (San Diego State) and Caine Savage (Utah) are joined by Coach Dan Davidson and others Wednesday.

Caine Savage (5-11, 170) signed with Utah and Cassius Savage (6-2, 180) signed with San Diego State. The two, who are twin brothers, both played wide receiver and defensive back for the Pioneers.

“Today was an amazing day for Western High School,” said Western Coach Dan Davidson. “Sending out two Division 1 athletes to schools with the accolades of University of Utah and San Diego State University shows what dreams are made of.

“Caine and Cassius had every reason in the world to get distracted from reaching their goals, but they refused to be denied. They have had so much adversity in their upbringing from living arrangements, fighting to eat, a place to study and negative influences around them, but these young men are so mentally tough they would not accept failure. 

“I am proud to say that I have coached them on and off the field and blessed to be able to call them family.” 

Davidson said he believes Cassius Savage will be used as a safety and Caine Savage as a cornerback.
