Matthew Watts has been named new varsity football coach at Godinez High School, Athletic Director Lisa Treen said Tuesday.
Watts, who also teaches at Godinez, has been coaching at Godinez since 2008 in a number of sports, including football.
He has been an assistant football coach for the past 12 years with experience at all football levels.
“We are excited to announce that he will be taking on this important athletic leadership role by focusing on mentoring our young men in the sport of football while emphasizing a Griz culture of student-athlete excellence, character and sportsmanship,” Godinez officials said in a statement.”
Godinez was 1-9 overall and 0-3 in the Pac-Four League last season under Coach Sebastian Hernandez, who resigned at the end of the season.
