Fullerton High’s football players were excited to be out on the field Friday with a full workout in preparation for the season opener on Friday, March 12 against Pacifica at Fullerton.
Under guidelines from the California Department of Public Health and the CIF, football teams in Orange County were able to start full workouts Friday.
The non-league game will be the first of six games in the abbreviated season for the Indians, who compete in the Freeway League.
“I’m excited for the seniors,” said Fullerton Coach Richard Salazar. “They have waited patiently. Keeping the faith is something not everyone can do. These seniors have persevered and they weathered the storm.
“Most seasons it’s tough when you’re preparing for the next guaranteed season. This season was even more tough because they’re was no guarantee. The message believing and preparing is all you can do. You can get two things out of this last month seniors: one prepare for a season or enjoy the last opportunity of being with your brothers on the football field. Every week I was hoping not be the bearer of bad news.
“I’m glad our state and Let Them Play California were able to give these kids a little something to look forward to. Our latest practices have been fun, energetic and very enjoyable.”
Among the top returning players for the Indians are Hudson Chacon, linebacker; Matt Galvan, linebacker; Jake Romero, wide receiver; Levi Banuelos, center; Franklin Honrado, guard; Adrian Noriega, left tackle; Dylan Neal, quarterback; Cameron Williams, quarterback, wide receiver and Bryce Mays, wide receiver.
