Laguna Hills High School’s football program is establishing a Football Hall of Fame, according to Coach Mike Maceranka.
The inaugural 2019 class will include John McDaid, Bruce Ingalls, Justin Vedder, Daniel Urias and Logan Montgomery.
“Over the past 40 years, thousands of young men have worn the Brown and Gold and proudly represented our school on the gridiron,” Maceranka said in a release from the school.
“It is now time to begin to recognize the quality young men who have had a major impact on our program during their playing careers and beyond. Our inductees will be chosen on the basis of their impact on the program. Football is a team sport and it takes leaders to create a successful culture and role models for future generations.”
Maceranka said he has been impacted by all five inductees, starting as a ball boy in the early 1980’s when he was on the sideline with McDaid. He also played for Coach Ingalls and with Justin Vedder.
McDaid, who played in the early 1980’s, was one of the first to play college football (Harvard) and he is now an SEC official.
Ingalls was at Laguna Hills Hills from 1985 to 2015, first as an assistant coach and later as the head coach.
Vedder, who played in the early 1990’s, was the first CIF championship quarterback and later part of Saddleback College’s national championship team before becoming a quarterback at California.
Urias, a quarterback, was part of a league championship team and played at Idaho State University in the early 2000’s.
Montgomery, who played in the early 2000’s was an all-county and league MVP before moving on to play at UC Davis.
Celebrations for the class of 2019 will be held the weekend of Friday, Sept. 13, Maceranka said.
The Hawks will host Saddleback Valley Christian on that day in the annual “Hawks Hail our Heroes” game. The game recognizes all miliary and first responders and the class of 2019 will be introduced at halftime, according to Maceranka.
On Saturday, Sept. 14, there will be two events. The inaugural golf tournament will be held at Tijeras Greek Golf Course and in the evening there will be a kick-off fund-raising dinner and Hall of Fame Induction.
More information will follow, Maceranka added.
