Western High School’s football team has begun preparations for the 2022 season which includes a challenging non-league schedule, according to Coach Dan Davidson.
The Pioneers were 8-3 overall last year and captured the Orange League title with a 5-0 record.
“Western High School is looking forward to the upcoming season and preparing daily to build on what they have returning,” Davidson said.
“The combination of quarterback Anthony Luna (2,800 yards and 34 touchdowns) and wide receiver Drew Faulkner (70 catches, 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns) will be a powerful combination. This should really help the running game of Desmin Josway-Fairley, Josh Faulkner and Malachi Alatorre. This exciting group will add big play ability in the run game to help the offense stay unpredictable. “
The defense will be led by Josh Atonio, Deijon Wheeler and Carlos Pena on the line, Davidson said.
Diego Meza is expected to control the middle with Josh Shepperson and Ayden Ware as outside linebackers.
“They should be a quick group with steady tackling ability, Davidson said. “With a very challenging non league schedule, the Pioneers hope to be prepared for league.”
