Cypress High’s baseball team, seeded No. 2 in the CIF Division 1 playoffs, opened post season play Thursday with a 5-2 victory over Servite at Cypress to advance into the second round on Tuesday against Capistrano Valley.
The game will be played at Capo Valley at 3:15 p.m.
“Cameron Repetti, started today on the mound and wasn’t at his best; however, he did enough to keep us in the game,” said Cypress Coch John Weber. “Servite, I thought, had a very good approach of him.”
Repetti went 3 2/3 innings before the Centurions brought in Nebraska commit Brett Wozniak, a junior.
“He did a great job to finish out the game,” Weber said. Offensively, we put together some good at bats in the third inning starting with Elias Rios leading off with a single up the middle, followed later by Noah Carter’s double scoring two runs, followed later in the inning by another two-run double by Brett Wozniak.”
Cypress (27-3) now gets ready for Capo Valley, the defending CIF Division 1 champion. The Cougars defeated Beckman 8-5 Thursday in the opening round.
“We get to play the defending Division 1 champs, how cool is that,” Weber said. “And in 14 years as a high school coach, I have never played at Capo, so on a personal level, I’m excited to play there.”
