Cypress boys basketball team held on to defeat Newport Harbor 77-75 Saturday afternoon to capture the championship of the Cypress Summer Clash.
“Cypress was able to put out a nail biter with Newport Harbor,” said Centurions Coach Derek Mitchell. “The game went back and forth until the very end. There were several lead changes down the stretch. It was a fun summer league game.
“We were able to see progress from where we were 30 days ago. We learned a lot about our new players for the upcoming season.”
In other games, Santa Fe defeated Huntington Beach 54-50 in overtime, El Toro topped Sunny Hills 68-36 and Lakewood defeated a lower level Mater Dei team 62-52.
