Highly-successful Cypress High School baseball coach John Weber has been selected to be an assistant coach on the 15-and-under USA National baseball team this summer, he confirmed Saturday.
“I am incredibly honored and extremely excited to represent our country while coaching the very best 15-year-olds our country has,” Weber said.
USA baseball announced last week that seven-time Team USA coach Rob Shabansky will be the manager and will also be joined by pitching coach Casey Scott and assistant coach Derek Simmons.
Weber recently completed his 17th season leading Cypress. He has led the Centurions to two CIF titles and 13 league titles.
After a number of training camps and workouts, USA Baseball will name a 20-player National Team Roster on Saturday, Aug. 6, Weber said.
Training will then be held on Sunday, Sept. 10 and Monday Sept. 11 in preparation for the international competition Sept. 13-19 in Santo Dominican Republic.
