Cypress advances to tourney finals; Tesoro and Villa Park also capture victories

Cypress High’s boys basketball team will get a chance to repeat as champions of the Coyote Classic at Buena Park High.

The Centurions defeated Marina 88-67 Thursday night in the semifinals of the tournament.

Elijah Vaielua scored 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had three blocks for Cypress. Christian Chai and Eddie Spencer had 15 points each. Spencer also had three 3-pointers.

Marina (4-5) was led by Robert Aguirre with 21 points, Ethan Barnella with 14 points and Eric Hodgins with nine points.

Cypress (3-2) will meet Orange Lutheran in the finals of the tournament Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Tesoro 64, Portola 51: Tesoro improved its record to 6-1 overall with a non-league victory at home. Matt DeAngelo scored 25 points, Mike Mahlen had 17 points and Kaden Garrett 12 points for Tesoro.

Notre Dame Sherman Oaks 82, Beckman 69: Beckman fell in the Diablo Inferno Classic at Mission Viejo. Freshman David Manea led Beckman with 22 points. Justin Wood scored 13 points and made three 3-pointers.

Villa Park 98, Saddleback 33: The Spartans won their third game in a row at the Grizzly Invitational. Riley Schroeder scored 19 points, Dino Sdrales had 15 points and Bryson King and Damien Parker had 12 points each for the Spartans (6-1).
