Yorba Linda’s boys basketball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF 3A playoffs with a 57-45 victory over Heritage Friday night.
Yorba Linda (18-12) was led by Luke Ishikawa, who had 11 points, Cory Knutson, who had 10 points and Omair Memon and Alex Davis who had each had nine points.
The Mustangs moved out to a 29-22 halftime lead.
Capo Valley Christian 57, Compton 55: The Eagles (16-15) got a victory on the road in a 2AA match-up to move into the quarterfinal round.
Windward 68, Cypress 59: The Centurions fell to the top-seeded team on the road in a second round Division 1 game. Christian Chai led Cypress with 16 points and eight assists. Eddie Spencer scored 15 points and became Cypress all-time leading in 3-pointers for a season with 82, according to Coach Derek Mitchell. Alex Gutierrez added 13 points and three 3-pointers.
“I’m so proud of our guys this year,” said Mitchell. “Our seniors were able to continue our culture and lead our younger guys.”
