Century’s boys basketball team knocked off Newport Harbor 58-46 in the opening round of the Century Elks Holiday Classic Thursday at Century.
Rodrigo Ramirez scored 23 points, Eduardo Soto had 13 points and Tyler Thomas seven points to lead the Centurions (9-6).
“We played a complete game from start to finish,” said Century Coach Andres Hernandez. “We made timely shots and stops.”
Newport Harbor is the defending champion of the tournament.
Cypress 64, Rancho Buena Vista 62: The Centurions opened the Torrey Pines Holiday Tournament with a win on Thursday. Eddie Spencer had 27 points with five 3-pointers. Elijah Vaielua had 10 points and 10 rebounds and three blocks. Christian Chai had 10 points with two 3-pointers and two steals. Cypress will take on Laguna Beach Friday at 8:35 p.m.
Brea Olinda 48, Sunny Hills 37: The Wildcats were led by Garrett Brookman with 14 points and Ivin Rhaburn with 10 points in the opening round of the Orange Holiday Classic.
La Habra 78, Calvary Chapel 30: The Highlanders improved their overall record to 7-6 with an opening round victory in the Orange Holiday Classic. La Habra was led by Erik Howlin, who scored 42 points in three quarters.
Yorba Linda 77, LaSalle 67: The Mustangs (11-4) won their opener in the Century Elks Tournament. Alex Davis scored 20 points, Omair Memon had 16 points and Chance Sandoval and Ayaan Ismail 10 points each for Yorba Linda. Connor Platt added nine points.
Laguna Hills 51, Costa Mesa 35: The Hawks improved their record to 8-4 with a victory in the Estancia Coast Classic.
Corona del Mar 57, Kellis 41: Corona del Mar (8-3) was led by Jack Stone, who had 17 points and Efe Guocoglu who had 11 points in the opening round of the Winter Shootout at Cactus High in Arizona.
Valencia 50, Fullerton 41: The Tigers improved their record to 13-2 with an opening round victory in the Century Elks Holiday Classic.
Crean Lutheran 66, Cleveland 40: The Saints won their third game in a row with a win at the Santa Barbara Tournament. Drew Yezbak had a season high 28 points. Josh Shin added 15 points for the Saints.
