Corona del Mar football player Jack Cohen received the annual Jack Elliott Character Award and scholarship during a recent ceremony on campus.
The award is named after former CdM football star Jack Elliott, who died in 2019.
It is given annually to the “senior football player who exemplifies the very best of what CdM football represents: leadership, committment, integrity and moral character,” according to a note in the CdM football program. “This prestigious award not only recognizes the player’s excellence on and off the field but also comes with a scholarship to support their future.”
Cohen, a linebacker, will be given the honor of wearing the number two jersey, which Elliott wore.
Cohen’s grand-father, Harry Stahl, was a proud family member looking on.
“Our son, Ethan, passed away in 2020,” Stahl said. “In 2021 our family established the Ethan ‘Boomer’ Stahl Most Inspirational Player of the Year Award and scholarship which is given to a University varsity baseball player.
“The irony here is that Jack loved his uncle Ethan and the award that Jack received is basically the same character award that is represented by the Most Inspirational Player Award. We are lucky to have a son and a grandson with these special qualities.”
