Corona del Mar quarterback Ethan Garbers has committed to University of Washington, the junior announced on Twitter Monday afternoon.
“I’m a Dawg,” he said in his announcement.
CdM coach Dan OShea said he was “thrilled” for Garbers.
“He’s a great kid who has earned everything that has been presented to him at this juncture,” OShea said. “He’s humbled by the available options and feels Washington is the best place for him as a student athlete.”
Garbers, the offensive MVP of the Sunset League, helped lead the Sea Kings to the CIF Division 4 championship game against Grace Brethren. The Sea Kings, who finished 11-2-1, lost to Grace Brethren 26-14.
The 6-3, 190-pound Garbers holds CdM records for most completions and touchdowns in a season and also holds the records for most TDs in a game (seven) and most yards (476).
If all goes as planned, he will be able to compete against his brother, Chase, a former CdM standout who is the quarterback at Cal, which is also in the Pac-12. Chase Garbers will be a sophomore next year.
Chase Garbers said on Twitter Monday:
“So proud of Big E! Can’t wait to see you across the field….”
