Tesoro’s boys basketball team used a balanced scoring effort to defeat Beckman 79-52 in the North-South Challenge Saturday night at Tesoro.
Matt DeAngelo scored 22 points, Kaden Garrett had 18 points and Chris Allen 15 points to lead the Titans (11-2).
Tesoro led 20-19 after one quarter but then began forcing turnovers in the second quarter, outscoring Beckman 23-8 to move ahead 43-27 at halftime.
“We picked up our full-court pressure a little bit,” said Tesoro Coach Steve Garrett. “Their big guy (Jake Morrison) was hurting us down low a little bit so we kind of wanted to wear him down a little bit and pressure him a little bit more.
“I was pleased that our defense picked up and our captains (DeAngelo and Garrett) got us off to a good start.”
DeAngelo and Garrett were named co-MVPs of the game.
“I feel like we just had more energy against them,” DeAngelo said. “We picked up really good on our press early on in the game and got a big lead and then we sustained it the whole game.”
Morrison led Beckman (6-7) with 10 points and Tyler Graves added eight points.
