Corona del Mar’s baseball team opened the Ryan Lemmon series of games with a 4-0 victory over La Mirada Saturday.

The event, sponsored by the Ryan Lemmon Foundation, is being this year at host high school parks for the most part with some games at the Orange County Great Park. The tournament format had to be changed this season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

CdM’s senior captain Keller Strauss went six innings allowing only three hits and striking out three to record the win. Blake Butcher threw a scoreless seventh to complete shutout.

Junior Ethan Watson had a bases clearing triple in the first inning to get the Sea Kings going. Senior catcher Nico DiFerdinando added an insurance run when he belted a solo home run in the fourth inning.

“I am so proud of Keller,” said CdM Coach Kevin McCaffrey. “He competed his tail off all game and kept a very good team off balance all afternoon.”

CdM returns to play on Monday at CdM to take on Arlington at 3:15 p.m. The tournament wraps up Wednesday with the championship game at the Orange County Great Park Stadium.
