Four high school football scrimmages are scheduled for opening week of the newly-aligned Pacific Coast Conference’s abbreviated 2021 five-game spring season.
The league, known previously as the Pacific Coast League, added Dana Hills and Laguna Hills to form an eight-team conference for football.
PACIFIC HILLS LEAGUE: Portola, Laguna Hills, Dana Hills and Northwood.
PACIFIC VALLEY LEAGUE: University, Woodbridge, Irvine and Beckman.
The last three games of each’s team schedule will consist of league games.
The high school football season was delayed twice by the coronavirus pandemic but was given the OK to begin as soon as Thursday, March 11 in Orange County under safety guidelines established by the California Department of Public Health.
Attendance will be limited to immediate family members of players and possibly other participants. Specific guidelines can be determined by the home school.
Woodbridge Athletic Director Rick Gibson said Thursday that each player, band members and cheerleaders from Woodbridge will be allowed to invite two family members to see the Woodbridge vs. Northwood scrimmage on Friday, March 12 at University.
Players and cheerleaders from Northwood can attend and invite two family members. Visting bands will not be allowed to attend due to safety guidelines, he said.
At Irvine stadiums, the suggested social distance of six feet will be marked off in the stands, he added.
Gibson said no concessions will be sold during the game due to safety protocols.
All the games will begin at 7 p.m. and all but one of them are on Friday night. All games in the first week will be scrimmages and will not count on teams’ records.
