Capistrano Valley Christian football players and coaches, including first-year head coach Eric Preszler, have begun preparations for the 2021 season, which is scheduled to begin in January.
“This has been an unique challenge for every athletic team but especially for programs like us with new coaches and many new players,” Preszler said.
“That said, I feel blessed because I am surrounded by an excellent coaching staff and our administration is committed to growing football at CVCS. Our players have been flexible and motivated through all of the unknowns and we remain hopeful for the opportunity to compete.
“We have a great challenge ahead of us with a schedule that includes some larger schools and also some of the best small schools in the area.”
A number of players have stood out for the Eagles.
“Senior tight end/defensive back Peter Kelso has been instrumental as a leader in this program,” Preszler said.
“We expect breakout seasons from Jeremie McGurn (junior tight end/running back/linebacker) and Kaden Manrique (junior wide receiver, running back, defensive back).
“We are also excited to see the development of multiple newcomers including Josh Hernandez (junior lineman), Tommy Woods (sophomore running back/defensive back). and Jonny TeWinkle (junior offensive lineman/linebacker).”
CVC was 7-4 overall last year under Rick Curtis, who took the head coaching job at Crean Lutheran High School. Preszler was named new coach and athletic director in March.
